Frequently Asked Questions

How do you pronounce Motto?

It rhymes with lotto, grotto, and auto. And if you’re wondering why we picked it, well…a motto is something to live by, a short phrase or idea that offers inspiration and guidance; Motto’s motto is “Drink for Life.”

How does Motto make you feel?

Each can of Motto contains a full serving of matcha, so you can count on the same boost that traditional matcha delivers: a gentle lift, calm energy, and clear thinking. Ideas will flow. Things will get done. And the good feeling lasts — with matcha, there’s no crash.

How should I store Motto?

In the fridge — Motto contains fresh ingredients that are best stored and enjoyed cold. Stored in the fridge, it will taste its best for up to 8 months; check the bottom of your can for a Best By date. And of course, if necessary, it’s fine for Motto to be kept unrefrigerated for brief periods.

How do I drink Motto?

We like it cold, right out of the can; bonus points for sipping it out in the sunshine. Just remember to give the can a little shake to mix in any matcha that may have settled at the bottom.

Can you mix Motto with alcohol?

TBH, we like Motto best on its own…but if you have a combo you love, share it with us!

If I don’t finish my Motto, can I store it for later?

You certainly can — but Motto loses its fizz and flavor if it’s left open.

Where is your matcha from?

We’re proud to use matcha from Aiya, a family owned business founded in 1888. Based in Nishio, Japan, Aiya’s premium matcha is grown in a fertile environment perfect for creating rich, nutrient-dense tea.

How sweet is Motto?

We like to think just enough, which is to say: not very. We add a little honey and organic agave to our recipe because 1) it tastes great and 2) they’re a healthier alternative to the white sugar and corn syrup commonly found in soda.

Is Motto gluten-free?

Yes!

I liked the old bottles — why did you switch?

A whole bunch of reasons, but product integrity is the main one. The aluminum cans block light, which protects the beverage’s fresh ingredients. Furthermore, we believe functional health extends to the environment we live in, and we want our packaging to reflect that. Cans are easier to recycle, lighter to transport, and far more portable (less breakable) than glass bottles. We hope you like the cans as much as we do.

Should I be concerned with BPA?

Nope! We use a BPA-Non Intent (BPA-NI) liner made by Ball Corporation, which is the highest possible standard in terms of avoiding BPA in plastic. BPA-Ni is compliant with California Proposition 65 requirements.

How are you making an impact on the planet?

As a member of 1% for the Planet, we contribute a portion of our profits to fund a wide array of environmental non-profits and initiatives across the globe. We also offset 100% of our emissions through the Mamoni Valley Preserve, an independent non-profit organization. We’re always looking for ways to improve, so if you have an idea, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Where can I buy Motto?

For now, Motto is only available for purchase online — but sign up for our emails and we’ll let you know as soon as we land in a store near you.

What ingredients do you use in Motto?

Our ingredients set us apart. All real. Nothing artificial. Fresh and functional. Our tea leaves, the lemons, the honey — we trace every ingredient to its source and we make no compromise on quality.
